At the public hearing on Sexual harassment of students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria held on Monday, 17th February, 2020 at the National Assembly, Abuja.
The Bill which is sponsored by the Deputy Senate President – Senator Ovie Omo Agege, is co-sponsored by 106 Senators of the 9th Assembly with an aim to promote and protect ethical standards in tertiary institutions as well as human dignity by providing for: • (1) Protection of students against sexual harassment by educators in tertiary educational institutions. •(2) Prevention of sexual harassment of students by educators in tertiary educational institutions. • (3) Redressal of complaints of sexual harassment of students by educators in tertiary educational institutions.
WARIF was present at the hearing in our capacity as tertiary institutions partner on the EU/UN Spotlight Initiative which aims to eliminate gender based violence in Nigeria.
